Comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, has been hospitalized in Las Vegas, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled weekend performances at the Luxor. The news emerged on Friday, September 18, 2026, after the longtime Las Vegas performer was taken to a local hospital.
His representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed that Thompson is recovering and receiving medical care and support. The representative also asked fans and the public to respect the comedian’s privacy while he recovers.
The hospitalization has attracted significant attention because Carrot Top has maintained a long-running Las Vegas residency and has performed regularly at the Luxor for many years.
Carrot Top Hospitalized in Las Vegas
According to reports published on September 19, Carrot Top was hospitalized in the Las Vegas area after an incident on Friday.
TMZ reported that sources familiar with the situation said Thompson attempted to take his own life. Other news organizations have reported the hospitalization while emphasizing that the exact circumstances have not been independently confirmed by all outlets. The Los Angeles Times specifically noted that it had not independently verified the reported circumstances.
What has been publicly confirmed by his representative is that Thompson is recovering in the hospital and receiving care and support.
His representative’s statement also said that his family and those closest to him are grateful for the concern and prayers and requested privacy.
This distinction is important because details surrounding a person’s medical situation can be highly sensitive. Information reported by unnamed sources should not be treated as the same as information directly confirmed by the comedian, his family, or his medical team.
Why Were Carrot Top’s Shows Canceled?
Carrot Top was scheduled to perform at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.
His hospitalization resulted in the cancellation of the Friday performance, and his Saturday, September 19, performance was also canceled while he remained hospitalized.
The cancellation affects fans who had planned to attend the comedian’s regular Las Vegas performances.
At the time of the latest reports, information about later performances remained uncertain. The Independent reported that Thompson’s next listed performance was scheduled for Monday, September 21, but it was not known whether that performance would go ahead.
Fans with tickets should check directly with the venue or official ticket provider for the latest information about rescheduling, refunds, or future performances.
Carrot Top’s Representative Asks for Privacy
Following the hospitalization, Carrot Top’s representative released a brief statement.
The statement explained that Scott Thompson is recovering in the hospital and receiving the care and support he needs. It also expressed gratitude to people who had shown concern while asking the public to respect the privacy of his family and those close to him.
The statement did not provide detailed medical information.
That means many questions about his current condition, treatment, and expected recovery timeline remain unanswered.
For now, the most reliable public update is that he is receiving care and is recovering in the hospital.
MGM Resorts Responds to Carrot Top’s Hospitalization
MGM Resorts, which operates the Luxor, also issued a statement after news of Thompson’s hospitalization.
A spokesperson described Scott Thompson as a valued member of the Luxor and MGM Resorts family and said the company was relieved to hear that he was recovering. The company also expressed support for him while he receives care.
The statement reflects the long relationship between Carrot Top and the Las Vegas resort.
His residency at the Luxor has been an important part of his career for more than two decades.
Carrot Top’s Long-Running Las Vegas Residency
Carrot Top has been performing at the Luxor since 2005.
His Las Vegas residency is one of the longest-running comedy residencies in the city. According to multiple reports, he began his Luxor run in November 2005 and has continued performing there for more than 20 years.
Las Vegas residencies can offer performers something different from traditional touring.
Instead of traveling from city to city every week, a resident performer can work primarily from one location. Thompson previously discussed the advantage of this arrangement, explaining that being based in Las Vegas allowed him to return home after performing rather than constantly traveling.
His long association with the Luxor has consequently become one of the defining parts of his professional career.
Who Is Carrot Top?
Carrot Top was born Scott Thompson and became widely recognized for his distinctive appearance, energetic stage presence, and prop-based comedy.
He became known nationally during the 1990s, appearing on programs including Star Search and Comic Strip Live. Over the years, he developed a comedy style centered around physical props, visual jokes, exaggerated characters, and audience interaction.
His bright red hair eventually became one of his most recognizable features and contributed to the stage identity associated with the name Carrot Top.
His career has lasted for decades, with television appearances, stand-up performances, comedy specials, and his long-running Las Vegas residency.
Carrot Top’s Comedy Career
Carrot Top’s career developed during a period when stand-up comedy was becoming increasingly visible on television.
He gained attention through appearances on comedy programs before becoming a recognizable entertainment personality.
Unlike traditional stand-up comedians who primarily rely on spoken jokes, Carrot Top became particularly associated with prop comedy.
His routines often involve specially designed objects and visual setups. The props become part of the joke and help create a fast-moving stage show.
His distinctive style has remained closely associated with his identity as a performer.
Over the years, he has also appeared in television and entertainment productions, including guest roles on shows such as Family Guy, Scrubs, Reno 911! and Hacks.
Carrot Top and His Connection to Las Vegas
Las Vegas has been an important part of Carrot Top’s professional life for many years.
His Luxor residency has allowed him to build a consistent audience while maintaining a regular performance schedule.
The arrangement has also helped distinguish him from comedians who spend much of their careers traveling between comedy clubs, theaters, and arenas.
In a 2025 conversation on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Thompson discussed the benefits of his Las Vegas residency and the ability to return home after performing.
His long-term presence at the Luxor has made him a familiar figure in the city’s entertainment scene.
What Is Known About His Current Condition?
As of September 19, 2026, the publicly available information is limited.
His representative has confirmed that he is recovering in the hospital and receiving care and support. His family and close friends have requested privacy.
There has been no detailed public medical report explaining his condition or providing a specific recovery timeline.
Some reports have described the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization in more detail, but those reports rely partly on unnamed sources. The Los Angeles Times noted that it had not independently verified the reported circumstances.
For that reason, it is best to rely on direct statements from his representative and official updates rather than unverified social media posts or speculation.
Fans Show Support for Carrot Top
Following news of his hospitalization, fans have shared messages of support online.
The Independent reported that people commenting on Thompson’s recent social media post expressed concern and sent messages of encouragement and support.
For a performer who has spent decades entertaining audiences, the response highlights the connection that can develop between entertainers and their fans.
At the same time, his representative’s request for privacy is important. Fans can show support without speculating about private medical details.
What Happens to Future Carrot Top Shows?
The immediate weekend performances have been canceled.
The Friday and Saturday shows at the Luxor were both canceled following Thompson’s hospitalization.
The status of future performances may depend on his recovery.
At the time of reporting, the next scheduled performance was listed for Monday, September 21, although it was not confirmed whether that performance would take place.
Anyone holding tickets should verify the latest information through the official Luxor or ticketing channels instead of relying on older schedules.
Why Accurate Information Matters
News about a celebrity hospitalization can spread quickly, especially through social media.
However, medical situations are personal, and early reports can sometimes contain incomplete or unverified information.
In Carrot Top’s case, different reports have provided varying levels of detail about the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization. His representative has confirmed his recovery and care but has not publicly provided a detailed explanation of his medical condition.
Readers should therefore distinguish between:
- Confirmed statements from his representative
- Statements from MGM Resorts
- Reports based on unnamed sources
- Unverified social media claims
- Speculation about his health or personal life
This approach helps ensure that sensitive news is discussed responsibly.
Carrot Top’s Career Legacy
Regardless of what happens with his upcoming performances, Carrot Top has already built a career spanning more than three decades.
From early television appearances to his rise as a nationally recognized prop comedian, he developed a distinctive style that separated him from many traditional stand-up performers.
His Las Vegas residency has been particularly notable.
Performing at the Luxor since 2005, Thompson has maintained a presence in Las Vegas that few comedians have matched. His long-running residency has become a major part of his professional identity.
